This report is a thorough and comprehensive analysis of the automotive OEM components and spare parts market in Russia. Publication was preceded by over 12 months of thorough research and analytical work.
The report includes 200 profiles of Russian producers of automotive components and spare parts, as well as information about 60 companies that sell spare parts.
Report Background The auto components market in Russia, as well as the automobile industry as a whole, has undergone a different course of development than the market in Western Europe. The main feature was its long-term role in a planned economy. Large numbers of OEM components were manufactured by the car plants themselves, or by companies which manufacture quite a wide range of products of a certain segment, e.g., electrical or rubber products. The objective of these car plants, naturally, was to produce automobiles without catering to the requirements of the ever growing car parcs with large volumes of spare parts. Spare car parts were exclusively supplied to in-house aftersale service networks. As a result of this, a whole range of components were short supplied, as their production was limited by the capacities of the specialised enterprise. There were no incentives or environment for the technological development of auto component production. Research and development, and technological development of the manufacturing industry was carried out by initiative, mostly within the resources of automobile plants.
