Performance Seeking Porsche Owner

Why does it cost so much to have your ECU flashed???? There is a very good local Porsche Performance shop only miles from where I live and they want $3,000.00 to flash my ECU, it only takes one hour and it's a great performance enhancement but I just can't justify the cost! Can anyone clarify this prosess for me?

Default RE: ECU Flash

Which model? A 996TT shouldn't be more than 2k or so, a C2/4 shouldn't be more than 1k IIRC, and the 997TT, yes is high around 3k. There are a ton of man hours put into properly tuning the motronic system. If something is messed up due to the tune, it is not like blowing up a honda motor that can be replaced cheap. Since sales volumes are low, the price has to be higher to account for the hours of R&D. Keep in mind, with the 996 or 997, you can pull the ECU from the car and ship it out to any of the major tuners to have it done, don't feel like you need to go to the guy next door. It is quite easy to pull the ECU.
