2002 Boxster trunk won't open

2002 Boxster trunk won't open. I can hear the mechanism working when I hit the key button and one inside but it will not open. Seems I read somewhere there is a cable behind the drivers rear wheel for emergency opening. Is this true or does anyone have any suggestions? Front works fine.
