I'm getting the Avic D3 installed next week. Just bought it yesterday. It looks great and had excellent reviews. Also, only $1K and about $1,500 with mods, blue tooth, ipod adapter, etc.

I really don't get it. Have you used the new Kenwood piece? ( DNX8120 ) Retail on this piece is $1600 ( $1400 if you get it from me mail order). It is the only double din that uses Parrots Bluetooth chip set in the monitor for the BEST bluetooth interface on the planet. Secondly the navigation for the unit is done by Garmin so it is easy to use, millions of POI, easily ( and inexpensively ) upgradeable for mapping info, andyou can listen to a CD while you use the navigation. The iPod integration is second to none for video and audio ( on screen controls as fast as or faster than the ipod for both ). Not to mention the audio features ( too many to list ) There is so much talk about the AVIC pieces on every forum I go to. I can't imagine that these people have really ever tried anything else. I use have used both monitors and there is absolutly no comparison. PLEASE do yourself a favor and look at the Kenwood piece and make the comparison for yourself, or feel free to email me if you have any questions. Sorry for the rant but it really irritates me when people are not fully informed.

I would NEVER own another Kenwood. I've owned them over the years and they are terrible. Reliability is aweful! I got the Pioneer a trusted brand that has served me well over the years. The AVIC D3 is an awesome unit.

Whatever you decide, don't buy it via mailorder. If you have problems with the unit, you'll have to deal with it over the phone. There are plenty of places here in Co that have both the Pioneer and Kenwood. You can find the Avic D3 for about $800 and that's $700 less than the Kenwood. You'll pay a few hundred for installation. If something isn't done right, you can go back to the installer. Both units have pros and cons. You can't beat the Pioneer for the cost, functionality, optionsand superb reliability. I'm not an expert, just a life long user of Pioneer.

I agree. If you're going to spend that kind of money, pay a few extra bucks and buy it from the place that will install it for you.

dont get me wrong Pioneer doesn't make a bad product infact some of their product if flat out incredible just not their navi's , they are outdated by 3 years and audio on standard headunits is kick butt , on the screens it blows. Fact is pioneer makes good touchscreens but new kenwood touchscreens are nothing short of supior in every aspect , dollar for dollar feature for feature . Do you homework before you buy , do not listen to anyone but yourself , the market is too competitive to trust mis-informed people like hot911tt .

Also, don'tjust listen to Kenwood salesman who make thier living peddling thier products on sites like this. Look at what the consumers are saying about both products and make up your mind. We all share our experiences and as you've seen by a few people on this site, they too have encountered problems with Kenwood.

I disagree with the Kenwood salesman. I've had my Avic3 for a year now and love it. It's what I wanted, does everything I need and costs $500 less than the Kenwood. I too have had issues with Kenwood in the past and would never own another. You can list another 100 gee whiz facts about the Kenwood and it still wouldn't change my mind. Who knows, maybe the reliability has improved.
