Default Need help with interior replacement, 1988 928S4

Hi all,

I am going to be getting, as a gift, a 1988 Porsche 928s4 with a terrible interior. The exterior is gorgeous and has no problems, so that is a relief at least. My question is in regards to completely redoing the entire interior.

Everything, I am assuming, needs to be replaced. Dash/console, doors, steering wheel, seats (front and back) ... the ceiling/roof is ok, nothing horrible with it.

I am trying to find out what it might cost me to have this professionally reupholstered from the ground up including new carpet. Everything is cracked and falling apart from years and years of never being kept up, oiled ...etc.

I'm happy just to be able to drive the car, it's an amazing piece of work, but I would like it to look nice on the inside as well, to match the amazing exterior. The car is an 88, and has roughly 60 - 65k miles on her right now. Looking online, I have seen versions of this sell for upwards of 30k in pristine condition, and I'd like to get it back to that. Am I wasting time/money on this? Or is it not as bad as I'm afraid it might be?

Thanks for any info!

Aaron

Ok, my question is a bit different now, sorry...

I got 2 quotes from professional leather workers for the car, and had to strain to keep my eyes from popping out of my head

The quotes I got were between $12,000 and $14,000.00 for a full restoration.

So I guess the next question would be, is it worth it for more than simply having a nice interior/sentimental value?

What I mean is, would investing 12K actually add 12K to the resale value of the car should I decide to sell it, or would I be taking a great loss? The car has around 60K miles on it, and the engine itself seems to be in peak condition... I just don't want to put that much money into it if I am going to end up losing half or more of it if I sell.

Thanks!

I am pretty much in the same boat. My dad has a 85 928 that he will give me but it has been sitting outside for the last 10-15 years. I told him that I think it would cost more to fix it up that it would be worth in the long run. Seems like there may not be a lot of traffic on this forum of the 928
