I know there was a post on this a long time ago but I can''t find it.  I have an 01 Boxster and at aobut 3000 RPM until about 31500 RPM I have a very noticable vibration in the whole car.  Its especially noticealbe when the top is up as well as when downshifitng.  If I maintain speed at that 3000 RPM the vibration is constant if I accelerate through it its just for a moment.  Unfortunately in 4th and 5th gears 3000 RPM is a good cruising speed.  Thoughts or Ideas for me?  PorscheDoc?

Hi Patrick, just joking first if you can achieve 31500 RPM you''ve got Grand Prix Technolgy + on your Boxster
I assume you are getting the vibration when you are driving from the description.
If with the car stationary and in neutral can you hold the revs at 3000-3150 and reproduce the Vibration? It may be worth exposing the engine compartment to do this check so with a block against the throttle you can set up the speed and then see if the engine shows excitation at the critical engine speed speed range.
If it is truly an Engine Vibration the engine will go into the excitation mode.
Are the times you get this vibration associated with particular road speeds too?
You may be experiencing a vibration which stems from a driveline problem rather than the Engine.
Let me know on the above questions.

I have the same symptom.   Around 3000 rpm, ''01 , 2.7, boxster.   Only appears on occasion.  Would love to know what it is before the engine explodes or something.

Big Bob,

Sorry for the late response.  I had all sorts of problems with the web site the day I tried to respond.

I did the stationary test and in fact the vibration was there.  It was hard to hold the car in the vibration zone but I did feel it as I accelerated through the low 3000 RPMs.  I have no skills when it comes to exposing the engine so I'' have to get help and I have no idea what the excitation mode is...   This symptom is most noticable in gears 3-4-5.  Again when i accelerate through the low 3000''s its only momentary but in the higher gears its very noticable.  I don;t think I need a clutch but am wondering if that could be part of the issue.  I have had this 14 months and there is 86K on the car.  I have little insight to the car''s history.
