1-DIN or 2-DIN nav system in a 996
I have a 2001 Carrera 4 with the 1-DIN factory CD player and two utterly useless cupholders above it. I'd like a nav system, and ideally I'd like to do the install myself; it seems like a decent project for a guy with too much free time anyway. Good idea / bad idea? Is there anything about this that can't be done by an amateur with a decent set of tools and some time / patience?
Then there's the issue of what to put in... I've seen pics of 2-DIN systems being installed in place of the cupholders and the cd player, but does anyone sell a quality kit or are they all custom jobs? The other option is to install a 1-DIN nav system with a fold-out screen; if I'm not mistaken, the only one in existence is the Pioneer AVIC N5 / N4. Is this a decent unit compared to the wider selection of 2-DIN systems? |

There isnt a kit made for your car but making a custom bezel for it isn't too complicated.
It all depends what you want the finished product to look like. Send me an email and i can forward you some pictures of cars I have done both expensive and affordable. It all depends where you want to be. |
