Porsche 996 Custom Sub Enclosure

All,

Not sure if someone has done this in the past but I am new to the Porsche world. I recently bought a 2003 911 Cab and was extremely frustrated by the sound quality. Especially the sub response. I had the factory Bose setup with the plactic sub enclosure on the right side of the center console. A factory 4X6 sub.....are you kidding me? Well, I built an enclosure in the front section on the passenger footwell, and it sounded good, but took up too much space. Tried some boxes in the rear seat area, did not sound good. Well I finally modified the factory enclosure, put in a 10" sub, and it sounds really good! You loose no leg room and it looks totally factory. I will try and get some pics up soon.

Scott,

I didn't see any pictures of it on your website. I have done a few different subwoofer enclosures in that vehicle, but mostly what I recommend to keep it factory looking is to either do a foot well enclosure with an 8" or utilize the factory sub enclosure amplified with a different amplifier and a lot of sound deadening especially on the port.

Also, from experience with the McLaren, the laser defusers behind the grill don't work. What you have in your favor is that the inability of the laser gun to lock up on the SLR. I did a lot of testing on placement with this vehicle... I spent 2 complete days... sure some of it was you have to drive it over and over which we all know is no fun [&:] but it has to be at the nose. which is tough since it protrudes out so far... but it is a hard sell with some clients.

This was a box I had built to go above the passenger footwell it is not as easy to do but it doesnt take away from the foot well and is fairly invisible. The hard part is molding the backing for the box because fiberglass resin is too runny to adhear it inverted so the mold is taken with a composite plastic putty then transfered to fiberglass.

That is hideous.... just messing, was it a Ti9 in there? good midbass, didn't really do anything for real bass though, with top down driving... Also you can use the closed cell Styrofoam as the reverse mold, they sell it in craft stores, usually green and they stick fake flowers in it... get it to fit the way you want it, throw some fiber glass over the top of it, wait till it is dried, remove the piece from the mold, and wax the inside and start building up 2-4 layers of mat, and when dried, release it from the mold... if done right you can have that mold for a lifetime...

nah , its actually a jl audio 8w3 but but the grill for TI9 was flash where as JL audio's bubbled out a little so I used the flush one. standing next to the car you cant see it at all becuase the grill is flat.
