air filter
I have a '99 boxster that's due for a new air filter. I was told the K&N filter will improve performance. Does anyone have any experience with this?
Thanks, JS |
RE: air filter
Hi
The K&N filter will give you a small lift on performance, and I have used K&N systems on many of my cars. One piece of advice, do not oil the filter. There is a risk that oiling the filter can result in small oil deposits getting attached to the "wires" in the MAFS (Mass airflow sensor). If this happens you will find the "Orange Engine Check Light" will come on. This requires accessing the system to switch it off, and the need to clean or replace the MAFS. Also take a look at Fabspeed Cold Air intake System but do not oil the filter. Best Regards Big Bob |
RE: air filter
I installed and K&N aircharger kit along with an enhanced exhaust system and performance chip--got about 40hp boost out of the three. The K&N aircharger alone will give you about 10hp.

RE: air filter
The K&N aircharger is a nice lost cost add on and you'll feel some difference

RE: air filter
Thanks for the info Big Bob. I received a couple other replies, one stating a 10hp increase with the filter. Sounds like the thing to do as the air filter needs to be replaced anyway. Does the K&N filter require yearly cleaning? I don't put that many miles on the car, I've had it for 3 years, maybe a total of 3K per year (the downside of life in the north).
Thanks again for the reply. JS |
