Knocking Noise
 

I have recently heard an inconsistent knocking noise (I will hear three or more knocks and can then hear silence for several seconds before it starts again) in the engine of my 99 996 when idling. I can't tell if the noise continues when the car is moving.
Any ideas?

If it is a knock and not a chirp, I would have it towed to the shop and have them check your intermediate shaft bearing immediately.
