MSRP versus "buy price"

I am new to the Porsche world -- a new 2006 911 cabriolet will be my first time buying from Porsche dealerships.

One thing that seems to be common among the five dealers in my area is that when placing an order, the MSRP price I see is the price they want. -- no real dealing. Haven't seen much more than a $2,000 discount off MSRP. This is a new experience for me. Usually, I start at invoice and work up. Is this the true Porsche reality?

I love the car and understand that there are fewer of them out there, but MSRP minus $2K seems like a lot of profit when compared to invoice. Is that the way it is. Just need to be sure I'm not being naive.

Thanks.

Kevin

If you wait until the very end of a model year you might be able to get them to work with you a little. You should also wait until the end of a month or quarter since that's when the sales people are going to be most motivated to deal. I got a new Boxster for $4200 of the sticker.

Has anyone had any experience dealing with porsche dealer and pricing for european delivery? I realize that ED is another charge -- or option -- but at least when buying other German cars, such as BMW, dealers will often go as low as 500-1000 above invoice if you are willing to do ED.

You can always buy a used one and get a good amount off (compared to new). If you buy one still within warranty, you have no worries! [sm=signs003.gif]

Which is about 3% - better than nothing but not much in a world where Chrysler dealers will throw that much or more at you on something like a Crossfire, which costs only a third as much.

I just purchased a 997S for $4,118 under MSRP. Black/Black Coupe with minimal options. $87,050 sticker.

I actually am an independent dealer. MSRP is very loose for me then again I get my cars without warrenties so I am about to knock off about 20% from the MSRP.
