needing some help 912?

So Ive always been a VW guy, new to the porsche scene. I came across a craigslist ad:
http://honolulu.craigslist.org/oah/cto/2332723726.html

states a 1976 912.
I emailed and asked if he did any engine work. Because it says it has a 2.7 turbo, I'm thinking that was not the stock size in the 912. and a 1976 is a 912e correct?

Is the seller selling something else then a 912 or what?
He told me the engine has 77k miles on it. Also it needs the interior carpet. How hard is something like that come by if I was to purchase it?

Like i said, im new to the porsche scene and would like any knowledge that can be passed on.

Thanks
`Casey

Well, its not a 912. 912s came only with a four cylinder engine, either 1.6 or 2.0 liter. Never any turbos. If the owner is telling the truth, then someone dropped a 2.7 liter turbo six in it at a later date.

But then, 912s were only made from 64 - 69, and this does not look like a 912. Looks like a mid 70s 911, but I would stay away from it unless you know what you are doing (Its not original whatever it is ("widebody kit") sounds like it has been modified, and Porsches of this vintage rust - one sign of potential problems is missing/damaged carpeting. On the other hand they claim it runs and its certainly cheap.
