Default Starter motor hesitation, 03 Boxster

I have an 03 Boxster. Lately I noticed an unusual symptom. When I turn the ignition key, there is a hesitation before the starter motor kicks in. Sometimes it is just a second but yesterday I had to turn the key off then retry. Then the starter motor started immediately. What is wrong? Do I need a new battery? Thanks, Paul

I am going to guess a bad ignition switch. It is a known problem. Costs about 30 bucks and takes about an hour to install.

That seems like a reasonable guess.
I have not noticed any correlation between this symtom and temperature or weather
Thanks,
Paul
