water pump 944

i have 1983 944 porsche that i have have just had to replace the water pump. Onmy old pump there was provision for bolting on a belt guide but the new one that i got has no place to do this. on the old one there were 2 studs that came out of the pump and the guide was bolted to them. my supplier tells me that is the way that they come now, but it would not be the first time that he was just to lazy to send it back and get the proper one. any help is appreciated.. sam

RE: water pump 944

Nope, your mechanic has it backwards. The old style pump that came on the 83, had no belt guard, and used a smaller pulley, and a smaller timing belt idler roller.

The new updated pump uses the bolts and belt guard, with a larger timing belt idler roller.

That means your waterpump has been replaced with the updated style at some point.
