Default 2002 911 C4 check engine light

Good day. The check engine light came on and i don't have a code reader. Doesyou guysknowa place in the DFW area to get the code read or is it as simple as heading to the local auto parts store and having it checked??

If it's is an o2 sensor like i saw mentioned in this forum is it best to replace it or just turn the light off and forget it? if replace, where and approx how much in Dallas?

There are many autoparts stores that have OBDII readers that can give you the codes. Typically they will not tell you what those codes mean, but you can look those up. If you go to an independant shop or dealer that have a PST2 or PIWIS, they can tell you instantly what the codes mean.

If you are throwing a single O2 code, then replace both O2 sensors on that bank (pre and post cat). If one has failed, in my experience, the other will fail within a very short period of time.

If you are throwing O2 codes on 2 different banks, then typically it is not the O2's that are bad, but the MAF sensor. You can try cleaning it with MAF sensor cleaner by CRC (auto parts stores carry), but if the diode is popped and the light comes back on, then you will have to replace. It requires a security torx bit to remove.

There is also a MAF sensor code that can come up by itself, which then of course is a MAF sensor problem.
