911 no fuel pump

have a 78 sc that intermittently wont start... has spark.. no pump... fuel pump/relay replaced...air meter plate looks to be right height... runs great days at a time.. when no start theres no power to pump while cranking...

So there is zero pressure on the fuel plate when it isn't starting? You can turn the key on and find out.

is there a port i hook a guage to then turn key on without crank?

Just pop the air filter cover off, turn the key on (no start), and reach in the air box and feel the fuel plate. It should have pressure when you push against it. You can try it with the key off and see what it feels like with no pressure.
