Alternator

'02 911 C2 tip---27,000 miles---started acting funny while driving--battery volt meter reading 10 and dropping--dash lights lighting up like christmas tree(PSM.ABS-failure)---car finally "died" on way to dealer---started again with jump----
workup revealed bad alternator which took the battery with it---told a "common" problem in this model---

27,000 mile lifespan for an alternator???---sounds like a "nice" design by Porsche to continue revenue stream at $ 1100.00 a piece.!!!

Any thoughts?

RE: Alternator

Ouch, you need to find an good independant shop. Usually alternator failures are pretty uncommon in the newer cars. You paid WAY too much I am afraid. That is a $400 alternator and a few hours of labor.

Thanks again Doc. You would think dealers would be ashamed of themselves to charge so much. No wonder they were able to "take me" right in.
