Electrical Problems?

1991 Porsche 911 C2
When I start the car, the warning light illuminates and the alarm goes off. I can cancel the warning light by hitting the button. The problem is....the light stays on the dash because the following do not work, though I can still drive the car: odometer, speedometer, tiptronic, cruise control, spoiler (automatic doesn't work, but will work manually). Car shifts into gear and driveswith no problem and the tachometer works. All gauges except the odometer and speedometer work. Sometimes, when I am driving, everything comes back on, then it goes back to the same faults as I am describiing during the drive or the next time I start the car. Sounds as if I have a short somewhere, but could it be something else? I hope it is not the computer....if so, how much will that set me back? Any help will be appreciated.
:D

RE: Electrical Problems?

Sounds unlikely that computer oscillates between working and not working. Computers don't do that. I pick wiring, open or short. Good luck. I hate tracing intermittent elec problems. Start with all connections you can get to. Any connection is much more suspect than a run of wire.

RE: Electrical Problems?

Thanks for the advice....I hope you are correct. I just thought ofthe computer because of so many thingsgoing wrong at the same time. So far, I haven't found any wiring problem or connection problem. I'll keep looking and I'll keep listening to advice.
