Extra keys

I want a key to use as a spare, velcro'd under the car somewhere for emergencies. Is there any way to accomplish this without getting into some high price thing?

Completely depends on the car. If it is a newer porsche, you will need the imobilizer key, which is expensive. If it is an older porsche, you can make a key and bolt it somewhere under the frame.

So, wht do we do to determine if there is an immobilizer involved??????? Mine's a 2001 Boxster.

RE: Extra keys

Yes it has an imobilizer. You could get a valet key that will open the door. Not sure why you want an extra key hidden, it is virtually imposible to lock the keys in a boxster.

Thanks for the info. However, there are 2 trunks that you can lock your keys in, plus you can loose them.A spare on the car saves the day every time. But if I have to get a valet key that includes an immobilizer, it probably is not worth it.

RE: Extra keys

I just bought an 03 996 cabrio about 3 months ago, and only got one key from the BMW dealership that I bought the car from. They promised a spare, and I'm still waiting....

I did however researched how much it would be to get a replacement. It is $150 for the blade, $150 for the immobilizer head, and $140 to have the dealer (in Michigan) reprogram the key to the car. If I loose my key now, I would need to get the car towed to a dealer, and wait a couple days for them to order one and program it. YIKES!

Either way, in your case, it'd be worth the $440 to get the spare and at least keep it in your home.

PS. not sure if the986 isthe same as the 996, but if you lock you key in the trunk, you can put 12V to a stud in the fuse panel and it'll pop. This is for the dead battery situation. Would also unlock the trunk without a key, that is if your doors aren't locked.

Thanks for the info.....
If I pay $440 for a key, I'm framing it and hanging it in my living room (where it won't do me any good!) Noooooo thanks!!!!

Immobilizer

If it's a Cayenne, why not remove the Kessy unit and read the 93c86 IC. That is where the PIN resides. Go to a shop that has a PST2 or PWIS and have the extra key adapted.
