Oil change, spark plug, transmission maintenance frequency
 

I have put slightly over 8000 miles on my 06 Boxster S (Tiptronic) in about 6 months of driving, previous owner put about 500 miles in the first few months of ownership. The booklet indicated oil and filter change at 20,000 miles & spark plug at 60,000 miles. It seems kind of long before my first oil change. Should I stick to the book? Is there any real beneifit if I do my oil change at 10,000 or 15,000 miles interval? Please advise. How about spark plug, and how about transmission oil? Here are some driving information.I drive my car everyday, in warm weather (Hawaii), usually stuck in traffic when I go to work and back home is not that bad. I live on the top of a hill, about 5 to 7 minutes drive uphill.

Even with Porsche's new recommendations, I still advise changing oil every 7500 miles or every 6 months, which ever comes first. Acids still build up in synthetic motor oils, and it is not good to have that sitting in your engine cases.

Transmission oil? (I have a Tip)
I call the dealer, the service manger recommend not just and oil change, but a "services" every year. Of course, they want more business and more expensive charges.
What is a reasonable cost for oil changes? High & Low.
Please advise. Thanks.

On a non turbo engine (boxster/996), you can go 45-60k on spark plugs. 60k is pushing it a bit. Twin turbos every 30k.

IIRC trans oil on the tips are every 60k
