Problem on my 944****Please Help!!!

1985.5 Porsche 944

It all started when my buddy told me that my blinkers weren't working at all. I checked the fuse, and it was good. So I figured the only other thing that it might be was the flasher "relay". So i went to Pep Boys, bought a new flasher, and put it in.

I turned on the car, and all of the sudden, inside the cab started smoking underneath the steering column and the volt meter was jumping all over the place! I took the keys out of the ignition, but the car didn't turn off! I didn't know what to do so I was kind of freaking out. I couldn't think of any way to turn off the car, but then I figured I could just pop the car into gear and stall it. Meanwhile, its still smoking inside the car. I stalled the car and immediately took out the flasher relay.

Next, I go back in the car and all the electronics are still on, including my radio and stuff. I didnt want to drain my battery, so in order to turn off all the electronics, I pulled the ignition relay. Also, my left signals were on (not flashing) so I had to take the fuses out on those also.

Any ideas on how to fix this? I guess its a electrical/ignition problem?? Any similar experiances?

FYI I can still turn on the car just fine, I just cant turn it off...

Thanks so much. I love this car and want to get back driving it :(

Sounds like you need to start chasing wires. Start with the ignition switch. Replace any smoked wires. Big project now.
