Right kind of oil for a new 944 engine
What type of oil should I use in a new rebuild on a 944? I would like to use synthetic but do I need to use conventional oil to break in the motor or can I just start with the synthetic. I am just now installing the engine so it have no run time on it now. This will be an every day driver.
Thanks. |

20w-50 castrol or if you want to go synthetic, then go 15w-50 mobil 1 or something similar. Personally, i would just run the castrol. Others would disagree.

Well can you use the synthetic right from the start or do you need to break in the motor first?

Use dino oil for about the first 1000 miles, then you can switch to a synthetic.

I was thinking of AmsOil. It seems to be a better synthetic than Mobil 1. That is just what I have read.

Amsoil wrote the book on synthetic oil. Everything mobil 1 learned about oil, they learned it from amsoil....though mobil 1 still makes a fine oil. Mobil 1 is a little easier to pick up in the store, but if you have a supplier for Amsoil, then go for it. That is all i use to run in my vehicles up north.
