Short Shift kit on 02 911--worth it?
 

I have an 02 911 and am considering a short shift kit. But none of the porsche garages around Seattle I've talked to have installed one on an 02. I'm wondering if anyone with an o2 has installed one--which one?--and did it really make a difference?

Go with a B&M short throw shifter. A short throw is the FIRST upgrade that should be done to any boxster or 996. The reduce in throw is incredible, and after doing it, you will not ever want to drive a 986/996 without one, in fact driving a stock shifter after you have driven a short throw is absolutely hideous. It really makes driving the car enjoyable. The install is pretty easy, i can probably do a writeup from memory on the install if you send me your email, as i have installed a ton of them. First time, takes 1.5-2 hours, hardest part is you have to break out the old bushings for the old shift handle with a chisel, one of those things where a little force is better.

short shift kits are nice, and there is a difference in terms of shift times (but unless ur racing it doesnt really make a difference) and personaly i agree with Coughran taht it should be the first upgrade u should consider ( plus its cheap and doesnt take to long to instal)

In the 996/986 it makes a big difference in driveability. Seriously a stock 996 or boxster has a long shifting throw similar to my truck.

I just installed another B&M yesterday, got it down to 30 minutes, but i was hauling a$$ :D I realized that in the bottom underneath a sheet of cardboard are instructions on installing the kits from B&M with pictures. Should walk anyone through it.
