Storing My 996 for winter
 

Hi friends inPorsche land,
My 02 996 is stored from Dec to March.
And, I have the oil changed and the winterizing done per my mechanic. And, I have the charger set up on the battery.
But, my concern is my garage is not heated and my car sits all winter in relatively mild conditions (Seattle) but still how do I care for my care in the long run with this stop and start system?
How can I maintain it and enjoy it for many years to come?

I prefer to start the car once every 2 weeks and let it get up to operating temperature before turning it off. This will help to expand the oil seals so you don't have any premature leaks. Others choose to just winterize it and leave it alone. There is no need for heated storage in Seattle, the temps do not get cold enough to cause any harm to the vehicle.

One more question....I use a lot of stuff from Griotts Garage to care for my care--wax, clay, etc. What do YOU think about this 5Starshine wax? Thanks.

You know, we are a dealer for Griot's, but I still don't know much about detailing, lol. I have a buddy who is a professional detailer that comes in and does all our cars before they leave, I have no idea what process he even uses, lol :)

I can wash the cars and.......well thats about it :)

The Porsche Dealer replaced seals on my car just before it left warranty--and my guess is for that exact reason. The previous owner rarely drove the car and the seals dried out.
What is operating temperature? Is this idiling itin the drive way or driving it down the freeway?

Operating temp is 180 degrees on your temp gauge. You can get there either way, though driving it is the fastest. It will also keep your tires from flat spotting which results after a car sits in one spot without moving for too long.

I agree with doc about starting the car every two weeks even a month wont hurt.. About the detailing.. This site gave me alot of info and I hope it helps you out.. www.autogeek.net I also saw this banner in a picture of jay lenos garage in popular mechanics. Forquick wax Ifriend of mine suggested Eagle1nano wax.. and so far works awesome.
