Having nothing to do while I waited for my wife to complete an errand at the mall, I re-read the instruction manual on my 996. It says the Tiptronic has two speeds in reverse, about 3.17:1 and 1.93:1 if memory serves.

Why? And will it actually shift from R1 to R2 if you drive it far enough backwards (I'm gonna try when I find a safe place and practice a bit).

 

Did not know that Porsches have two reverse gears!

Guess we can kick people's butts in forward and reverse gears!
