Hello, another new guy checking in. I grew up around Porsches and to say I'm a Prosche nut is an understatement. This looked like a good place to ask questions, share stories, and maybe find some parts (1964 356 C).

I found a couple. As of right now I've got the motor pulled out for rebuild and am starting to remove/rebuild the brake calipers. The car's all original with no rust, but is a bit dusty from being stored in the garage.

hi, im in the middle of restorng a 1964 356C originally from south africa,

whos is the Boxster?

The Boxster is my mother's car. My folks bought the 356 in or around 1968. Dad drove it for a few years and they went through a series of 914s until '72 when he bought a '71 911T. Then Mom drove it for a few years. The 356 became a weekend car in the mid to late 70s. Mom drove the '71 until 1986 when she traded it for an '84 Carrera. The Boxster replaced the '84 in 2000.

And Helen, I didn't know you were having a 356 restored! Have you got any pic's?

Unfortunately it needs a little more than a wash. I drove the little C when I was sixteen and then on weekends after that for a few years until the motor decided it needed to be rebuilt. My problem is I'm impatient and want it running now not later. I still get excited just thinking about it and planning my restoration.

Forgive me if I'm being naive, but isn't the 356 motor basically the same as a beetle engine, so relatively easy to find parts for and rebuild?

Or could you not fit a beetle engine until your Porsche unit is rebuilt?:eek:

Yeah they're basically the same. The 356 has two carbs which I believe was a conversion on most of the Beetles. The internals are a little different. I've got the motor that came out of the car, another motor already disassembled w/ a 1750 cc kit (bigger cyl.s), and a third older motor that was purchased for the aftermarket carbs a previous owner had installed.

The engine I pulled out was the factory original for the car. Since I'm not going to sell the car I was going to rebuild it with the big bore kit and carbs from the other two. I could fit a beetle motor for the time being but they've gotten hard to find around here. A good solid running motor used to be cheap but now they're few and far between. I'd almost be better off finding a wrecked beetle that had been well cared for/partially restored and then wrecked.
