I vote for the original Porsche 911 (which was actually the 901 when it first came out, I think: that lame Peugot lawsuit). It defined and era yet to end, going on 42 years now.

It depends on whether you are talking about road or race cars.

What's a 944/Volkswagen when it's at home? Surely if it's a Volkswagen it's not a Porsche?

Anyhow, If money was no object & I could own any Porsche, it would have to be a Le-mans winning 917 in Gulf livery, so I would say that this is the best Porsche ever!!!!!

1990 RS Tuning 911 Turbo. 216mph, a few faster than Ruf's Yellow bird. RS is based on a Turbo body and not a standard body as the Ruf car is. 935 suspension coil springs vs torsion. Car has 580bhp @ 6900rpm 465ftlb @ 5500 rpm. 4.6 to 60 is not record breaking by today's standards, but can be a daily driver too. Porsche's are known for being fast, but also predictable and comfortable compared to many others in this market. I just bought a 1985 944 and the doors still shut with no effort with a solid bank vault thump like my new M3 does. They are well built cars:) I am glad I just started to get involved with these as well. I think a 911 of some sort will follow in a few years.
