cayenne noise

Hi guy`s thanks for having me, i came across your forum while searching google. From the top i have to admit i dont own a porsche, i came across the forum while trying to find a solution for my mates cayenne 3.2 v6, so if this is against the rules ,feel free to kick my "heed" in and dispose of me.
Here`s his prob,he has been getting a noise from the front left of his cayenne, sounds a bit like wheel bearing,it is only there at cruise speed, he had it in at porsche, who said it was possible wheel bearing, but they would have to strip down to try and trace the fault, said it would cost at least £900 plus the cost of which was causing the prob.He said he would leave it just now and they relieved him of £200
I did his bearing yesterday, but he called today to say the noise was still there, i was wondering if anyone has an idea what it could be,i did notice an intermediate bearing on the drive shaft, so i`m thinking it could be this, but he`s laid out so much cash we`re trying to find a likely cause.any help would be most welcome.
Once again thanx for having me and i will call again
cheers Joe

RE: cayenne noise

The driveshaft carrier bearings are notorious for being off center, and will cause a bearing like noise. Typically you just have to move them back in line and it will fix the problem. Typically this will also cause a slight vibration at highway speeds though as well.

Thanx for a speedy reply Doc, i presume that its the bearing itself that requires centering rather than the carrier itself. Once again many thanx for your help.
cheers Joe

Hi, Ironjoe, welcome on board, when I join this forum, I didn't own a Porsche either. Have fun and read up :-)
