Porsche Newbie

Hello All,

I stumbled upon this board researching 996's and discovered there is a wealth of information within these forums!! I decided I might as well introduce myself because I'm going to be spending a lot of time browsing through these threads.

I have been going back and forth on what type of Porsche to buy. I really love the new 997's but they are out of my price range. Keeping things to mid 50's would afford me a barely used Cayman, or a plethora of used 911's, but it seems every model I REALLY want is just out of my reach. My main concern with researching the 996's was to find out if they can be a reliable weekend driver. I get the feeling that the 911's need to be driven often, and that once or twice a week might be too infrequent. I have been cosidering a few other cars as well, Dodge Viper, Lotus Exige, Lotus Esprit V8 and so on down the line. Living in SoCal lets me have a nice choice of premium used automobiles as the truly wealthy get bored with things over a year old.

To reitterate, I absolutely LOVE Porsches, and really want a impractical, fun, sporty car to drive for fun on the weekends. Just trying to find the perfect balance or performance, price, reliability and get the most bang for my buck.

Wish me well, and greetings to all of you!
