1974 911 Targa Widebody

I picked up a 1974 911 Targa Widebody yesterday and was wondering how many of these were made? The guy that I got it from really didn't much about it. He aquired it from a guy who had it in his warehouse for over 20 years (and the guy I got it from had it in his garage for the last 5 years), so it has only been started up and driven a few times over the last 25 years. It has what appears to be factory air, and a "whale tail" with an oil cooler in it., as well as aluminum/w/ white spoke Bourbet wheels (type A)The odometer shows 24k. The seats are pretty well shot and the paint is original (although pretty dull). I paid $2500 for it and am kind of undecided as to restore it or sell it as is. If its rare I'd definatly restore it, as all it really needs is seats and a good paint job. The only rust I see is on the bottom of the drivers door (not much), and I've looked the car over pretty well. Anyone have any suggestions

Anyone have any ideas if this is a factory car, or the "widebody" was a add-on?

You don't say what CC the engine is or if it's a genuine Carrera on the log book. Have a look at the Wiki page for info... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porsche_911

VIN says its a 911 Targa Carrera

I checked out a website that indicates it is a 1974 911 Targa Carrera (http://www.adelgigs.com/911vin_numbers.shtml

I'm just going to paint it, do the interior, drive it this summer and sell it, I'm leaning towards getting the paint and body work done right, that way if the person I sell it to wants to make it into something more than a DD they won't have to do the paint over

also

the vin actually came up as "Carrera Targa US" and according to that website only 245 were made. I have to believe that after nearly 40 years there cant be that many left around

It's a factory kit, an awesome one to be honest. How much did you pay for the car?

Do you still have it?
