1978 911SC - Pricing help please!
Hi!
I am new here and on the verge of purchasing a 1978 911SC w/ 250k miles. It needs some mechanical work (1st gear wont engage) and it needs to be repainted (passenger door at least - giant paint chip) . The interior is clean, but the seats are ripped. Can someone give me a general idea of what I should pay for the car? I have no problems with doing the work myself, BTW. Thanks! B |

Wow! - 250k... I have a '79 Targa with 85k that I would think is worth about $10/12k (vgood cond altho also a ripped seat at seam - just thread issue). So with 250k - maybe $3/5k depending overall condition??

1st gear not engaging is bad if all the other gears engage fine. If there is some grinding when going into every gear, you can try and adjust the clutch cable at the transmission end and see if that helps. If the car is in very nice shape and the clutch can be adjusted, i would think about 10k, if the tranny is indeed shot, or the clutch is gone, maybe 7-8k ish.

I don't know about the other gears. I have not started up the car. Basically, it FEELS like it engages all gears but 1st is blocked when the car is off. If you are asking why I would buy a car like this it is because I got if for $500! I plan on just rebuilidng the tranny unless it turns out to be something simple. It's not the clutch cable, as i already inspected that. Unfortunatley, I wont know until I drop the engine and tranny.

Where is this clutch cable? Ever since I replaced mine, I've been getting a bit of grinding going into second and third. How do I adjust this?
