1980 SC barely starts with cold engine

Hi guys, this is my second Porsche and I just had everything fixed that needed attention but it still barely starts on a cold engine. It's not as bad in summer, but in winter it barely runs and takes 15 minutes of warm up time to get it going. Once it warms up it runs like a bear! Any clues as to a fix? My mechanic seemed a little puzzled.

Have your CO adjusted.

Thanks for the tip. Is that something I could do, or should it be left to a professional. Oh yeah, what is my CO?

Your car is a CIS system. The fuel head can be changed lean to rich, and your CO levels will be a direct indication of that. You would need a CO tester, which will go in your tail pipe, the car will idle for about 15 minutes, and then you make adjustments to the fuel at the fuel head. I am guessing it is to one extreme or the other. I would also find a mechanic who is proficient in older 911's, it doesn't sound as if your current mechanic really knows what he is looking at. CO would be the first thing you would check for this symptom.

Thanks Doc, I'll have a trained professional go for it!

and it's a good thing you stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night.
