1989 Carrera 4 need engine rebuild
Hey guys,
I have found an 89 Carrera 4 for sale that seems to be a good price, however is in major need of a motor rebuild (rings and valves). Apparently it was run out of oil due to the wrong oil filter being installed. I have rebuilt motors before, but only older chevy's (read : easy to work on!) and I have never worked on any Porsche, thus I have no idea what I'm in for. So I'm looking for a, "sure that's a piece of cake", or "oh god, that thing is a major pain in the ***, I hope your good friends with a Porsche mechanic".
That and this car has over 200 000 kms on it, (120 000 miles) so is it worth putting that kind of time and effort into? I have no idea if the trannys were any good on these cars, or the all wheel drive system. Other than the motor, the car appears to be in good shape, no bends or cracks, all the pannels line up (no indication of being hit) ect.
Any help????
Thanks
James
