1991 C4 - to buy or not to buy ?
 

Looking for opinions, experiences, knowledge, or just plain advice on the 1991 C4 3.6L
Got one in mind, 134k miles - rebuilt motor at 126k miles - receipts read very detailed like a lot of care was taken to do it right (but who really knows but the mechanic) , seems to be a clean car, no rust, tight, but not a garage queen.
I plan to use it for part time daily driver so not perfect = not a problem.

Please tell me about the 3.6L and the tranny - good, bad or ugly ?

Is the AWD going to be problematic ? I have owned other AWD vehicles and know the standard issues, but anything unique to Porsche on the AWD system ?

Carrera has it's own special issues vs SC ??

This would be my second, first was '69 911s that had tranny syncro issues.
PPI (compression/leakdown) and Carfax are part of the plan but like everyone else just do not want a problem car.
I know the reliable reputation of the older SC's, just do not know what the older C4's have been doing to folks. Thanks !

The 964 was a VERY solid platform for porsche. If the car has been well taken care of, and the engine was rebuilt properly, the car should run great as a daily driver for years. The front differentials have occasional problems, not with the diffs themselves, but with some of the solenoids. Not a terribly hard fix though. Transaxles were also very strong in them.

Get a PPI done with leakdown and compression test to check the engine, then if the rest of the car checks out, then take the leap! The 964's are a lot of of fun.
