2005 C2S - 3800mi. - $66K? good deal?

I am in the market for a porsche carrera s and came upon this car on ebay
2005 carrera s - 997 chassis
Speed Yellow
3800 miles
6spd.
$66K.
- should I get a P.P.I.? (pre-purchase inspection) what should I ask the dealer to look for?

what should I ask the seller? Does anyone have this vehicle and reported any problems? Anyone know a good auto shipper that isn't going to charge me an arm and a leg (shipping from New Jersey to Los Angeles)?

I had a Ferrari shipped from Long Island Ny to Orlando Florida ,1 way and it was $825.This was three years ago. NJ to LA my guess is $2700. I would use an enclosed trailer so it shows up clean and fresh looking.

That seems like a good price to me.I assume the car looks pristine. You will love the 911S it is an awesome car.

Yes I would do a prepurchase inspection. They know what to check for. You want mainly three things, 1) insure all maintenance and service bulletins have been completed, 2)They should check over the engine and transmission for leaks , valve blow by andnormal running and shifting of the drivetrain. 3) Lastly they should look at the cosmetics to see nicks or dings in the paintor whatever. You may want to suggest you want it done there and what is the price. You can use this as a bargaining point especially if they protray the car as "as new".

I would probably go and see it. if you do not be sure to get your vin # and have the car insured against theft. if you do not go to see it and it never shows up the insurance agency will consider it a theft and if your coverage is written for full replacement value or a value you agree with like in classic car insurance you are protected.

Personally i would want to see the car, be there for the inspection, see the title and be there as he loads the car for its new home as you hand him the check. i may go through a dealer and pay thm a small amount to be sure everything works as planned and everyone gets what is promised.

Good luck.

Thanks Lee!

Also, I wanted to know if I should give the seller the money before or after they transport the vehicle?

People do it riped off. The car never shows up.

If I saw the car and you have a sales slip signed, paid. I would feel okay if you do the insurance protection I mentioned in the first post.

There was an article a year ago about a guy who bought a ferrari over Ebay or something like that and after months the car never showed up, wouldn't return phone calls etc. The article went on to say the "want to be Owner"fortunaely insured this "to be his Ferrari" for full replacement value. He got his money back and the insurance company went after theto be seller. I have done that with the last three carsI have bought. I alsohave always seen the carsI was about to purchase.

Good luck,

Iwish I knew more soI could provide more help.

Good luck to you.

That's a very good price, especially with the mileage. If it's loaded, GPS,etc, I would make sure its legit. You will not be disappointed with this car!

RE: 2005 C2S - 3800mi. - $66K? good deal?

i just talked to the seller today and he tells me that he is too busy to get car inspected at authorized porsche dealership. He wants me to hire an independent inspector to come out to his home on a day he is free to have car inspected. Now, to my understanding, these independent inspectors do not have comp. diagnostic tools to read and fault codes nor do they have a lift system to carefully see the undercarriage and frame of the vehicle. Should I still move forward with this sale? The seller is constantly telling me that its only got 3800 miles, but I still want it checked out at a porsche dealership. What do you guys think?

That, coupled with the good price, is starting to raise a red flag. I just bought one unseen in October and took a lot of precautions. I did get the PPI and he had an additional independant inspector review it.

Once I had a complete third party person (the PPI) see the car and verify it was as the seller stated, I felt better.

So, if I were you, I would pick my own independant inspector that you pay and that only speaks to you and get his take on the car. I would not use who the seller recommends.

I had to pay for the car before it got to me. But, once I paid, he sent the title and the title arrived before the car. So, I felt a little better. But, by the time I gave him the money, I felt 99% comfortable the deal was legit. Plus, I used lexis to do a fair amount of searching on the seller.

As far as shipping, I would NOT go with the cheapest option. I don't trust the shippers at all. So, I asked around and found a good one. It did cost a lot. I think it was like 1,600 from Wisconsin to Houston. But, it was shipped in an enclosed trailor and there were only three other cars in there. So, it arrived safely.
