911 metal in the oil
 

I have 500 miles on a 3.2 911 motor that I installed rod bearings, APR bolts, EBS head studs, rings, ported and polished the heads, new guides, valves, performance springs, titanium capset.., GE 20 cams, new chains and guides. The motor runs very strong. After changing the oil and adjusting the valves I noticed fine metal flakes in the oil. Since then I have changed the oil 4x. The flakes after the final oil change is barely visable but still there. The flakes look to be non metalic or aluminum in nature. The magnets do not pick them up. The case was never split. After thinking about it and using a stethoscope, I deterimed that it must be in the chains. I took the covers off to find nothing obviously wrong. I thought maybe the chain alignment was off. I have not yet taken the cam gears off yet. Alot of work went into care of doing it right and checking my work twice. This is nothing short of disheartening. The motor went together with no bind et.. Is there a chance that the problem has corrected itself and I'm seeing residual from that? Can anyone help me? Thanks- RacerX

Your description sounds normal, I wouldn't worry about it.

Hi after a "home"Engine rebuild, you are always likely to pick up a little metal debris. As you say it sounds like alliminium, you know that the timing chains are not chewing the case away. I feel that as you have got less and less, you have not got a serious problem, and you are tidying up after the rebuild.
