As a newbie, I need some advice on a 2001 911 twin turbo.

I am looking at one with 35,000 miles on it, super clean, fully serviced, for $55,000.

Anything I should be aware of with that year and model ? I believe that year had the redesigned front/rear weight configuration. If so thats a plus for maintenance also.

I wish I had the experience to answer your question. I can give general turbo issues & advice but what you need is the practical ownership experince. Sorry I never owned a turbo Porsche

I am sure you have heard of the "2nd gear popping out" on the 6 speed. Otherwise, it's an old and reliable engine design with lots of potential to be modded to 500hp+. it's a fantastic, versitle sports car. the price you have been quoted looks quite fine. check out the Rennlist discussion forums for more information on the TT. good luck!

I have a 2001 996TT with 36K on the clock, tiptronic, so can't speak for manual issues. I bought it second hand from a Porsche dealer. Couple of things;

a) recommend if you can look at a Porsche approved second hand car as you can [in Australia] extend the warranty which is a good thing
b) if the car has been a garage queen check the age of the tires. If they are the originals then the rubber may be hard If youintent to "drive" the car you may experience ABS intervention in the final couple of metres of braking and the handling may be more harsh and road noise excessive.
c) check the head-light leveling arms in the rear end are not lose. Apparently the clamps can come lose
d) check out the previous service history to get an idea of how many kms have been done between services and by whom.
e) check the PCM when the next service is due and any messages

I found my car had spent a lot of time garaged, previous doctor owner and eventually dianosed a problem with original tyres having gone hard. Only found out during some spirited driving in a local gorge on a couple of hair-pin bends. All solved by replacing all tyres!
