993 turbo smoking white at ignition
 

Since the last big service, thick white smoke comes out from both exhaust pipes at ignition time...both turbo never leaked and suspect wrong oil filters (without valves) installed - anyone to confirm ?

Where did you have the service done and what was done? How long do they smoke?

Hey thx Doc.

service has been done by a big porsche reseller. 80 kkm service - looks it was a full tech. service (as per the price I paid for ) - smoke comes out
at every ignition where as before that bloody service never did ! it comes out for a sec. or so however smoke is quite thick and frightning.
I have been told from different sources that oil filters used are now delivered without an internal valve to retain oil to leak back to the engine pistons
which will then be burnt at ignition time.

If you want I could be able to give the product reference # ?

Filters would be a place to start. They should have used Porsche OE or Mahle oil filters only. There is one underneath the engine (right, front corner of the engine), and one in the right rear fenderwell. Typically a puff of smoke is normal on a horizontally based engine, but it should only be for a second or so. Oil will leak past the valves slightly, it has nothing to do with the filters in that case.

The used genuine Porsche parts to perfrom that service, delivered in a form a kit, as they say however they, did have to find and replace the filters with the same model (with valves) and it looks like now the smoke had diminished since but still there. Believe it or not but it took'em 7 Months do finally decide to
search for old filter model. I am about to sue them anyway as since the very begining they were aware of it but it has been a pain to get these
guys to fix it once for all. Well...thanks for your advice and if you think about a known problem around these filters - let me know - I leave in Europe, maybe in the US genuine Porsche part channels may not be hit by these new filters.

Hey Doc --- guess what ?

problem fixed after a few seach by a different Porsche professional - filters were the guilty and replaced and car now starts (after sometime resting) without an once of smoke (as before the deadful complete service). thanks anyway for your input.
