burned oil smell after acceleration

Hello group. First post here. I tried to find a search feature before posting but was unsuccessful. I have an 01 996 with 52K miles which emits a strong odor of burned oil after any reasonably hard acceleration, even if only 20 seconds or so. It lingers a while then disappears. REcently I lifted the hood after revving the engine and tracked the scent to the airbox. A small amount of smoke was exiting the airbox connector to the engine. I have had the car for 3 years with purchase mileage of 17K and must confess it has always done this but now I want it fixed because I am selling. I have an extended warranty which has been helpful on other repairs. I have heard of problems with oil leaks with 996s. Please advise.

RE: burned oil smell after acceleration

Mine does the same thing, though my 996 has over 100k on the odometer. I have been told by my shop that I have a pin hole leak onvalve cover for lower bank ofcyliders. Same thing, my car doesn't drip a drop in my garage, but under hard acceleration I get burnt oil smell with a little smoke that goes awayafter 10-15seconds. Maby Porschedoc could chime in if thisdiagnosissoundsright or not. I don't want to pay for valve cover gasket replacementif RMS is the problem.

Thanks,

Kevin
