Buying 2002 911 carrera

Hi just searching the internet and i thought this would be a good forum to join since there seems to be a lot of Porsche enthusiasts. I hope that i can also share the joy of owning one of my own.

Im currently interested in picking one up but am confused at what price is good for a 966 Carrera cabriolet. The one i seem to be drawn to is in pristine condition and has been well maintained only 28k miles. Took a test drive and it goes wonderfully. The only problem is that the dealer is looking for a price around 37,750. I feel that this is too much given the kelly blue book value is 35,000. The car is fully loaded with the aero kit and tip tronic. Your input would be greatly appreciated as this is my first time dealing with a porsche.

On a side note there was a plume of white smoke when the sales man turned on the car. I figured that this is normal after looking this up online.

thanks in advance

Yeah, the smoke is normal as long as it occurs only on start up, particularly after the car has sat for a while. If it smokes upon hard use that is another matter.

As to price, carrera convertibles tend to be rare enough in some areas that you could see regional differences in price that deviate from Kelly Blue Book by 10-15%. Also the car appears to be in reall good condition and to have a number of options, whch the dealer may consider are worth more than you and Kelly BB think. It is not an outrageous price but on the high side. I'd have it checked out and ask the dealer what else you get besides his true regard (for the moent) if you by from him -- any warranty, even 90 days parts, etc?

In the negotiation phase the dealer wasn't really offering anything. I mean the main thing they were pushing is how well it was taken care, as it was some customers wife's car. I actually had the pleasure of meeting them. As for the warranty no special deal given just under 5K for 5 years.
