Buying Guide 930 or 964

Hello,

I am thinking about buying a Porsche 930 or 964 targa or convertible for a daily driver and I am new to vintage porsche.
Maybe you can help me out some:
Are there any years or series to avoid ? (I think I heard something about avoiding the 86 models.)
When did porsche introduce airbags ?
Is there a good website that lists all series with pictures ? Wikipedia only has some....
Is there a good buying guide ? I only found the 996 guide here.
how may miles does a porsche engine last ?

best regards
bubba

RE: Buying Guide 930 or 964

Bubba,

I think there would be pros and cons to each as a daily driver.... I don't own a 964, but I'd think it's creature comforts would probably be easier to live with then a 930....I don't think there are any specific yearsto "be avoided" as long as a good PPI is performed. Although some years are prone to problems that others aren't. Again a good PPI will save you alot of headaches and money.

Porsche engines have been known to last a long time, some in excess of 200,000 miles whenproperly taken care of.

There are many forums ( Pelican, Rennlist, sixspeedonline, etc.) along with the info you'll get here that can help with your decision, and plenty of books to help... The Used 911 Story is one, often recommended..I can’t attest to it , as I have never read it myself. A search will provided others I'm sure. One other suggestion I would make is look at as many candidates as possible before buying.

Hope this gives you a start to some of your questions, I'm sure others willl add more .
