I'm buying my first 911 - mostlikely a 87 or 88 model year - but I want to know as much about the car as possible before taking the plunge. My understanding is that a legally US imported car has a vin format with "WPOAA + 12#s" or a "WPOE + 12#s"; a good candidate I found has a vin plate under the bonnet (trunk) with a "WPOZZ + 12#" and another plate at the door with "WPOA + 12#s"! The question is, do all cars have the same "WPOZZ" format at the front and the destination plate at the door? Is this car a legally imported car or one of the "gray-market" cars?
