Default can i kick the cat out?

hey,
my 86 911 carrera is having performance issues and i believe that it is my cat converter. i want to get rid of it this week because i there is a guy that can make me a pass pipe, or test pipe...

my questions are: can i run my car with out the cat until i get the pass pipe?
will anything get messed up by switching it out, like the computer or anything?

and my other concern is that if the new pass pipe doesnt solve my problem, being that during bad weather i dont get almost any performance, where on clear warm days all the power is there, it has a spitting spuddering flutter sound when you stop the gas in any gear, like its missing or clogged...

if you can please respond to one or all my questions that you know about... thanks

You can get rid of the cat no problem, but I dont know that it would have the symptoms you describe.
