Gas Gauge Out of Calibration????????

Hi Guys,,,,

Any advise would be greatly appreciated. I have 2000 996 C2. When I fill the car up with gas, the gas gauge goes from full to showing I have burned a quarter of a tank, within 20-25 miles of driving. Could I possibly need my fuel gauge re calibrated? I recently had some work done on my car, and the battery was disconnected, could this have caused the fuel gauge to read incorrect?

If so, what is the process that is done for the re calibrating.

Thank you............

My 944 and my truck does the same thing. I know for me it'd cost more than its worth to fix it. I'd suggest contacting the closest porsche dealer. I have no idea how you could fix it yourself though.

I often have the same issue on a 2001 C4, but find it to be intermittent and fluxes with the brand of fuel... I have asked the dealer and they don't have any answers....

I really would not put money or worry into it as long as it is accurate when you get near empty. Since your first posting on this subject, I've noticed in three fillups now that my '04 Carrera seems to drop the indicated fuel level pretty quickly from full to 3/4 (although not in 20-25 miles, but its definately not linear) but then it lingers around 3/4-1/2 for longer than I'd expect, too.

I don't think many gas guages are really accurate, and you are still way much better than in the corvettes. My 02 corvette stays near full until about 3/4 of a tank is reached, then drops to 1/4 tank in only 40 miles (fuel level indicators are a know problem on the C5)
but it is accurate down near empty which is all that really counts.

I seem to have the same problem on my '99.

There's some kind of recall, which requires just a software update for that issue?
