Default Help with '83 911SC

I am about to receive a black 1983 911SC. Car has been sitting in storage for about four years. Some people have told me to NOT start the car until I have a certified Porsche Tech perform a full service on her. Car has 53,000 miles, all original, pristine condition. Anyone know what this car is worth? I've seen an average selling price in the $23,000 range, but have also seen at auction for $40,000. Thank you for any assistance

I'd have to check values, but no way are SC's going for 40 without being pristine. I would say a 53k mile car if it is in good shape would bring upper teens to low 20's, again depending on condition.

Drain the gas, put in new gas, drain the oil, put in new oil and filter, pull the plugs, squirt some oil in the cylinders, plugs back in, pull the fuel pump relay, crank the car over until it builds full oil pressure, fuel pump relay back in, and start it.

Thanks for your input. Most '83 911s I've seen for sale go for around the $20,000 mark, so I'll stick with that until I can get an actual appraisal for insurance purposes. The car was extremely well maintained and stored. No prior damages, no scratches in paint, leather is still in perfect condition, etc. I plan to keep her a few years perhaps. Thanks again.

If you become a PCA member, I believe they have a valuation service which will help set the value of your car. Also, if you go through the last year of Excellence magazine, each month they break down a different model for value. I can't remember which month the 911SC is in, i'll look through my issues I have laying around and see what I can find.

Thanks for your assistance. I think it may have been the August Excellence mag issue, but I cannot get to it online unless I order a back copy. Until I see the car again, I don't even now if it's a Cabroilet, or a Coupe. I Know the top comes off, and it's not the carerra. All the owner's manual say's is it a Model 83. Thanks again.

IF the top comes off, then it is a 911 SC Targa.
