As Mike said, the 996 and boxster platforms are very reliable. While you can have a few hiccups with the engine, they are very few and far between. The engine was actually designed by the Japanesefor reliability and longevity......now they still have a lot of work to do, but it's not bad. Typically all these cars need are gas and oil.

I picked up my new 1999 911 Porsche in mid 1998. I drove and enjoyed the car untill Sept 2007 when I traded it in for a new 2007 911. These cars are very reliable and feel as tight and sqeak free as the day I bought it.

I don't have a 996, but I have a 987 Boxster S, drive it everyday, put 14k miles on it in 10 months. Yes, it is a Porsche, build to last.

I believe the initial 3.4 litre version of the 996 was the source of some of the concerns on reliability with internal water/oil leaks in the engine. So with the facelift model circa 2003 things got much better. I have heard comments on interior trim getting tired, but if you look after that - it looks after you! Personally I prefer the headlights on the 996, although the lower grille on the 997 looks more agressive. Which is why I fitted a Cargraphics Lip Spoiler.

In 30,000 miles, I've had only one problem with my 2004 996 C2: the CD changer acted up and would not load disks. The dealer replaced it immediately without question.

107,000 on my daily driver. It has spent some time in the shop, but it runs as smooth as silk. Just like any other car if you take care of it, it will last.

They are very reliabile...trust me. A friend of mine has a 996. NO PROBLEM WHAT SO EVER!!!

I drive hard and fast; no problems way over 110mph daily. (I have a couple speed runs)Ireplaced a h2o pump under warranty. 1999 996 47K MILES + , bullet-proof car.
