Importance of access to dealer for 997
I had been in the process of looking for a used 997 when I learned that the local Porsche dealer would no longer be selling Porsches. Now, the closest dealer is200 miles away, which is too far. My last911 was a '73, which I would never have taken to a dealer. My question is whether, generally speaking, independent "foreign car" shops which might not specialize in Porsches but have experience with recent-vintage European vehicles could adequately deal with most issues which might arise with a 997. I 'm not talking about oil changes, but more complicated but still somewhat routine thingsthat might require proprietary diagnostic equipment, or a clutch replacement, trans work, electric motor replacement for a sunroof, etc etc. Is 997 ownership still viable in this scenario?
If the car has a Porsche warranty either still in the 2 year period or a Porsche Extended Warranty you are stuck wiuth a 400 mile round trip to protect the warranty.
If you go local make sure they know Porsche.
Best is to go to the Porsche Dealer if you can however. With planning they will accomodate your travel etc and ensure they can cover the work in the day. Ie get there for 8.30am and drive home in the evening.
