K&N Filter?? Or Cold Air Intake?? Is it worth installing??

Several friends have suggested I install a K&N AirFilter on my '07 targa. I used them on several other cars over the years but i really didn't notice any real improvement. I had a complete Cold Air Intake on my former car, an '03 Nissan 350Z and other than a slightly louder exhause sound, I really didn't see any improvement with that system either.. What do you all think?? Should I or shouldn't I??

I am going to bump to the top because this is a similar question to what I wanted to ask. Has anyone installed a COI and whatr are your results? Does Porsche support this minor modification?

In my opinion...

In my opinion a k&n cool air intake does in fact improve engine noise. That's really all I can get out of one. It is suppose to increase horsepower too but on a 2000 civic ex it's not really good for much when I comes to the performance. Maybe it's just the 4cylander stock engine getting in the way...Most likely. But on a 350z I would think it would help if not to just better your engine sound. I think 350z's sound good without an intake but if you want it louder and you want to see if ou can increase horsepower(even though you probably don't need to on your Nissan) I would think it's more than worth it to install. It's a really simple task so ya, worth it. I would also add a k&n filter too :) not too expensive and also an easy task. Hope I helped!

Read the question wrong. You've already had one in your 350z. I personally think any car could benefit from one. So I don't change my verdict. I do think installing a k&n cool air intake would be worth your time.

I've installed and tested K&m filters and Cold Air Systems on lots of cars: 'vettes, Acuras, Porsches. I dynoed the results on a Dynojet type dymometer

Generally the K&M does nothing. Similarly, most cold air systems create more noise, sometimes veyr nice sound.

I've never seen a situation where the gain from a cold air system, alone, was more than within the accuracy range of the dynometer, unless the throttle body was changed, too. I saw 3-5 hP gains, and losses, but that was just dyno variations due to random factors from hour to hour. NEver anything that made a difference.

It really sort of stands to reason: the throttle body is the typical restriction point. Once you re-size that, you generally need more air flow upstream and the improved cold air system (at least an expensive one), tends to help.

Not that good a reply for automatic software.
