key question

I notice over the weekend that the red light on my key was on all the time and it would not lock or unlock my car. I have a 996tt 03. I have tired to take the key apart to replace thebatterybut I don't want to break it. I was not really worried about it until I went to get gas. The door to the gas cap is locked, and I can not get to unlock. The closest dealer is 2 hours away. Anyone have any ideas or know how to take the key apart.
Thanks
Mcarter

RE: key question

Try a flathead screwdriver. Those keys come apart. I guess the doors are locked? If not, jump the car off. That should trip it.

RE: key question

One time I had a funny thing happen to me.

I went out to my C2 and the alarm light was flashing.

At the same time the button on my key wasn't working.

Turns out, I had some girl sitting on my lap, and she was pushing down on the door lock/unlock button and it was opening and closing the door (for a couple of hours) and it wore the battery out.

Well, I opened the door with my key the normal way, and I went to get gas, and the gas door wouldn't open.

I had to put the key in the ignition and turn it 5 times or some damn thing (and play with the lock button inside the cabin) before I could get the gas tank to open.

I'll bet we had the same experience.

I just took the key apart and plugged in another CR32 battery. No problems.
