navigation help requested
 

greetings...there's a question regarding a 2002 turbo that I'll be looking at mid-week that I hope to buy. The seller who has only owned the car for a couple of months claims that he is getting an error message on the screen for his navigation due to not having a local cd to install. The car is presently in Arizona with a California cd. Is it correct that the screen will give an error message with the wrong cd in the drive?

My own experience is that the screen will show the map but will not be able to show locations, etc. However, the only nav I'm experienced with is Ford and BMW.

Any help is appreciated!

Doug,

My 2007 nav system has one disk for the entire US & Canada. That is what the dealer told me. I know (think?) the early systems had one CD per state. my opinion is 2002 should be one disk for the US. Call a dealer and ask.

Thanks Lee...I do plan to be watchful of a more serious problem here and throughout the car.

The seller claims he is unable to get the cd changer to function. So, we have a cd changer/ nav system that is giving an error message and a functionality issue appears that something more serious may be up here.

new cd for the nav on the way from Navteq...looks like the culprit may be the porsche (becker) cdc-3 cd changer that's integrated through the PCM with the nav

The new cd showed up yesterday after being routed through an address that is two houses and five years ago. The agent at Navteq neglected to update my address so off it went. FedEx stood up to the plate and shot it down to Arizona overnight after getting word of Navteq's error.

The nav system works like a charm. It's interesting to play with this old system compared to the new ones. This technology has improved leaps and bounds in 5 short years. Just a note reagrding the cd for archiving sake. The cd was produced for the nav system in 2001 for the 2002 car. It has not been updated since and they have no plans to do so as the following year Porsche changed systems and went to a dvd based nav.
